1890'da Viyana'da doğan, 1976'da Los Angeles'ta ölen Lang, mimar olarak yetişti ve filmlerine güçlü bir görsel ve mimari duyarlılık kattı. Almanya'da destansı fanteziler, suç dizileri ve sesli gerilim filmi M'yi yaptı. 1930'larda Almanya'dan ayrıldıktan sonra Hollywood'da çalıştı ve bir dizi kara film çekti.
