1935'te Atina'da doğan, 2012'de film çekerken bir motosikletin çarpması sonucu ölen Angelopoulos, kuşağının önde gelen Yunan yönetmeniydi. Yavaş, görkemli filmleri Yunan tarihini, sürgünü ve hafızayı uzun planlarla keşfeder.
