Born in Konya in 1980, Ali Özel began in film and advertising in 1997 as a camera assistant and worked as a cinematographer before directing. His debut feature Bozkır (Steppe, 2019) swept the Antalya Golden Orange, winning best film, best first film, best director, best screenplay and best editing, along with the critics' SİYAD award.
