Born in Petrošani, Romania, in 1975, Călin Peter Netzer was part of the Romanian New Wave. His second film, Medal of Honor (2009), was about a retired man whose war hero medal is questioned. Child's Pose (2013), in which a rich architect's mother tries to protect her adult son from a prison sentence after a fatal car accident, won the Golden Bear at Berlin. Ana, mon amour (2017) examined a love affair with an unstable partner.
