Born in Vienna in 1972, Feo Aladag was an actress before moving into producing and directing. Her debut film When We Leave (Die Fremde, 2010), about a young German-Turkish woman who leaves her violent husband in Istanbul and takes her son to her family in Berlin, only to face their rejection, won the LUX Prize of the European Parliament and an award for best first film at Tribeca. She followed with Inbetween Worlds (2014), about a German soldier in Afghanistan.
