Jerry Schatzberg

New Hollywood

Born in New York in 1927, Jerry Schatzberg was a fashion photographer who took the cover of Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde, and made films with a documentary-like realism and with a New Hollywood sensibility. Puzzle of a Downfall Child (1970) was a portrait of a model. The Panic in Needle Park (1971) gave Al Pacino his first leading role. Scarecrow (1973), a road movie with Gene Hackman and Al Pacino as two drifters, shared the Palme d'Or at Cannes. He later made The Seduction of Joe Tynan (1979).
