Born in Copenhagen in 1974 and raised in Oslo, Joachim Trier studied at the National Film and Television School in Britain. His films are melancholy reflections on love, ambition, memory and identity, from Reprise (2006) and Oslo, August 31st (2011) to Louder Than Bombs (2015), Thelma (2017), The Worst Person in the World (2021), for which Renate Reinsve won best actress at Cannes, and Sentimental Value (2025), which won the Cannes Grand Prix.
