Terence Young

British Cinema

Terence Young (1915-1994) was born in Shanghai, served in the Guards Armoured Division in the Second World War and wrote and directed British thrillers in the 1950s. He directed the first two James Bond films, Dr. No (1962) and From Russia with Love (1963), then Thunderball (1965), and is often credited with shaping the character's urbane manner and coaching Sean Connery into it. Wait Until Dark (1967), a tight thriller with Audrey Hepburn as a blind woman besieged in her flat, is another of his best-known films.
