Plot
Yachine and his brother Hamid grow up in the Sidi Moumen shantytown in Casablanca, playing football and facing poverty. As they get older, extremists recruit them and train them to carry out suicide bombings, leading to the attacks in Casablanca in 2003. Nabil Ayouch's 2012 film, based on a novel by Mahi Binebine, is a bleak, humane study of radicalisation.
Sinekatalog’s take
Nabil Ayouch's drama follows boys in Casablanca's Sidi Moumen slum from football games to extremist recruitment and a suicide bombing. Quiet and pained, it is a humane, powerful film about how despair breeds violence.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
