Plot
A police inspector, recently promoted to head of the political division, murders his mistress and deliberately leaves clues to the crime, to test whether his position makes him immune to prosecution. As the investigation develops, he confidently watches his colleagues avoid the evidence. Elio Petri's 1970 film, with Gian Maria Volonté and Ennio Morricone's score, is a savage satire of power and won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Sinekatalog’s take
Elio Petri's Oscar-winning satire has a police chief murdering his lover to prove he is untouchable. Gian Maria Volonté is a tour de force, and Ennio Morricone's score underlines a sharp, paranoid study of power.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
