Plot

The story of the last Russian emperor, Nicholas II, and his wife Alexandra, from the birth of their haemophiliac son Alexei to the fall of the monarchy and the family's execution in 1918. Their devotion to the boy leads them to trust the mystic Rasputin while war, strikes and revolution close in. Based on Robert K. Massie's book.

Sinekatalog’s take

A lavish, serious historical epic that puts the human cost of a fallen dynasty ahead of spectacle. It is slow and stately, but the production design and the supporting cast are excellent.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
