Plot

In 1933, a passenger ship sails from Mexico to Germany, carrying a mix of travellers including a lonely divorcee, a faded countess addicted to morphine, a ship's doctor and a drunk former baseball player. Most of them are unaware of the rising danger back home, and the Jewish passengers on board are treated with contempt. Based on Katherine Anne Porter's novel.
