Plot
In 1945 New York, Vito Corleone, the head of a powerful Mafia family, refuses to enter the drug trade, and an attempt on his life leaves him wounded. His youngest son, Michael, a war hero who wanted to stay apart from the family business, takes revenge and gradually becomes its ruthless leader. Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 film, with Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Sinekatalog’s take
A crime saga that is really a family tragedy. Coppola's patient, shadowy staging turns Michael's slow corruption into the story, and the wedding-to-baptism finale remains a masterclass in cross-cutting. Its influence on every gangster film since is hard to overstate.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
