Plot

In Venice, the elegant thief Gaston Monescu meets a charming lady thief, Lily, and the two fall in love and go into partnership. In Paris they decide to rob Madame Colet, a wealthy perfume heiress, and Gaston becomes her secretary. But as he grows close to her he is torn between Lily and a new life. Ernst Lubitsch's 1932 comedy is famed for the "Lubitsch touch", the way it hints at what it does not show, and its wit and sophistication made it a model of the romantic comedy.

Sinekatalog’s take

Ernst Lubitsch's elegant comedy of two thieves in love is sophisticated and sly. The Lubitsch touch, with its wit, innuendo and style, makes this Depression-era confection a pinnacle of romantic comedy.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
