1899'da Londra'da doğan, 1980'de ölen Hitchcock, kariyerine İngiliz sessiz sinemasında başladı ve "Gerilimin Ustası" olarak tanındı. Yanlış adam, buz gibi sarışın ve sıradan bir yerin tehlikeli hâle gelmesi üzerine kurduğu gerilimleri, suspense dilini biçimlendirdi. 1939'da Hollywood'a taşındı ve en ünlü filmlerini orada, 1950'ler ile 1960'ların başında yaptı.
