Born in London in 1899 and died in 1980, Hitchcock began in British silent cinema and became known as the Master of Suspense. His thrillers with the wrong man, the icy blonde and the ordinary place turned dangerous shaped the language of suspense. He moved to Hollywood in 1939 and made his most celebrated films there in the 1950s and early 1960s.
