1933'te New York'ta doğan, 2022'de ölen Bob Rafelson, televizyonda çalıştı ve The Monkees'i birlikte yarattı; ardından Bert Schneider ve Steve Blauner ile BBS Productions'ı kurdu. BBS, Easy Rider ve The Last Picture Show'u finanse etti. Konser piyanistliği kariyerini bırakmış huzursuz bir avareyi anlatan Five Easy Pieces (1970), Jack Nicholson'ı yıldız yaptı; sonraki filmi The King of Marvin Gardens, kardeşler üzerine eşit derecede kasvetli bir inceleme oldu. The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981) gibi filmlerde sık sık Nicholson ile çalıştı.
