Bob Rafelson

New Hollywood

Born in New York in 1933 and died in 2022, Bob Rafelson worked in television and co-created The Monkees before founding BBS Productions with Bert Schneider and Steve Blauner. BBS financed Easy Rider and The Last Picture Show. His own Five Easy Pieces (1970), a portrait of a restless drifter who has abandoned a career as a concert pianist, made Jack Nicholson a star, and his next film The King of Marvin Gardens was an equally bleak study of brothers. He worked often with Nicholson, as in The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981).
