Sudan
Sudanese cinema had a lively period before the 1989 coup, which closed cinemas and suppressed film. A new generation, led by Amjad Abu Alala's You Will Die at Twenty, the country's first Oscar submission, has revived Sudanese film with spare, poetic stories of religion and fate, often made in difficult conditions.
