Born in Miami in 1964, Kelly Reichardt teaches at Bard College and has been a quiet, steady presence in American independent film since River of Grass (1994). Her minimalist, patient films, set largely in the Pacific Northwest, are about people on the margins of the economy: drifters, friends, pioneers and ranchers. Old Joy (2006) and Wendy and Lucy (2008), with Michelle Williams as a young woman searching for her dog, and the western Meek's Cutoff (2010) are regarded as landmarks. She also made Certain Women (2016) and First Cow (2019).
