Women Directors

Born in Tangier in 1980, Maryam Touzani worked as an actress and journalist and co-wrote the films of her husband, the director Nabil Ayouch, before directing her own. Adam (2019), about a pregnant young woman who takes shelter with a widowed baker in Casablanca, was in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. The Blue Caftan (2022), the story of a married tailor who is attracted to men, and the apprentice he takes on, won the FIPRESCI prize at Cannes. Both deal with women's lives, desire and forms of tenderness.
