Nanni Moretti

Nanni Moretti

Contemporary European Art Cinema

Born in Brunico in 1953 and raised in Rome, Nanni Moretti began with Super 8 comedies and plays a version of himself in many of his films, a neurotic, opinionated left-wing intellectual. Dear Diary (1993) is a witty tripartite diary of his scooter rides around Rome. The Son's Room (2001), a quiet study of a family after a teenage son dies, won the Palme d'Or. He also made Habemus Papam (2011), about a newly elected pope who refuses the job, and he is the owner of a Rome cinema, the Nuovo Sacher.
