Born in London in 1928 and died in 2018, Nicolas Roeg started as a cinematographer, working for Truffaut, Lean and Corman, before turning director with Performance (1970), co-directed with Donald Cammell. His films are known for fragmented time, associative editing and an uncanny sense of place, as in Walkabout, Don't Look Now (1973), The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), with David Bowie, and Bad Timing. He remains one of the most influential British directors of his era.
