Richard Donner (1930-2021) was born in New York and directed hundreds of episodes of television, including The Twilight Zone and The Wild Wild West, before The Omen (1976), a hit horror film with a famous score by Jerry Goldsmith. Superman (1978) made him one of the founders of the modern superhero film, with the tagline 'You'll believe a man can fly'. He then made The Goonies (1985), from a story by Steven Spielberg, and Lethal Weapon (1987), the model for the buddy-cop action film.
