Srdjan Dragojević

Balkan Cinema

Born in Belgrade in 1963, Srdjan Dragojević made a name with Pretty Village, Pretty Flame (Lepa sela lepo gore, 1996), based on the true story of Serb soldiers trapped in a tunnel by Bosnian forces during the war in Bosnia. It was a sensation in Serbia and was criticised in some quarters as a glorification of Serb nationalism, while others read it as an anti-war film. The Wounds (Rane, 1998) followed two boys growing up in 1990s Belgrade, and Parade (Parada, 2011) was a comedy about a gay pride march.
