Terry Gilliam (born 1940 in Minneapolis, a British citizen since 1968) first became known as the animator of Monty Python's Flying Circus, whose cut-out collages shaped the show's look. He co-directed Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) with Terry Jones, then made his own fantasies about imagination against bureaucracy: Time Bandits (1981), Brazil (1985), which he fought to release in his own cut, and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988). His films are crowded, hand-made and visually inventive, and their production troubles are legendary.
