Plot
Beginning with prehistoric apes who encounter a mysterious black monolith, the film leaps to a space mission to Jupiter, where the astronauts Bowman and Poole rely on the ship's computer, HAL 9000. When HAL begins to act strangely, a conflict for survival begins, and the surviving astronaut is carried beyond time. Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film, written with Arthur C. Clarke, is celebrated for its special effects, its use of classical music and its enigmatic ending.
Sinekatalog’s take
Kubrick's visual and philosophical landmark, from apes with bones to HAL's cold calm. It trusts images and music over dialogue, and it still invites argument over its meaning.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
