Plot
Mathilde, a young woman who walks with a limp, refuses to believe that her fiancé Manech died in the trenches of the First World War, where he was sent into no man's land as a punishment with four other soldiers. She follows clues, letters and the stories of survivors across France to find out what really happened. Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 2004 film, based on Sébastien Japrisot's novel, reunites him with Audrey Tautou.
Sinekatalog’s take
A war romance told as a detective story, with trench scenes of real horror and a heroine who refuses to give up. Jeunet's decorative eye is a little too tidy for the subject, but the sorrow gets through.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
