Plot
Mabel Longhetti, a housewife in Los Angeles, begins to behave in ways that disturb her husband Nick and their neighbours. Her attempts to be a good wife and mother turn into an unravelling, and Nick, a construction worker who loves her, struggles to cope. John Cassavetes's 1974 film, with Gena Rowlands in a legendary performance, avoids easy answers and is a raw portrait of marriage, love and mental illness.
Sinekatalog’s take
John Cassavetes follows a housewife whose erratic behaviour strains her family. Gena Rowlands's performance is wrenching, and the film's improvised intimacy is uncomfortable in a way that feels true.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
