Plot
In Poland in 1946, among the ruins of a war that has devastated the country, Emilia, a widow who lives with her mother, meets an American soldier, Norman. Despite not speaking each other's language, they fall in love, but circumstances and the new political order make their relationship difficult. Krzysztof Zanussi's 1984 film is a restrained, spiritual love story that won the Golden Lion in Venice.
Sinekatalog’s take
Krzysztof Zanussi's postwar romance follows a Polish widow and an American soldier who fall in love without speaking each other's language. Maja Komorowska and Scott Wilson are moving in a sober, tender Golden Lion winner.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
