Plot

Three interlocking stories from Macedonia and London show how a cycle of violence in the Balkans cannot be escaped. A monk who has taken a vow of silence shelters a girl, a photographer returns home from London, and a village feud explodes. Milčo Mančevski's 1994 debut, with its circular structure, won the Golden Lion at Venice and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Sinekatalog’s take

Milčo Mančevski's circular Balkan tragedy is a Golden Lion winner of three interlocking tales. Beautifully shot and mournful, it captures the fatalism of ethnic hatred with haunting images.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
