Plot
In a decaying villa in the Italian provinces, a family is dominated by illness: a blind mother, an epileptic brother and a sister who is obsessed with him. The young Alessandro, who is also epileptic, decides to free his brother Augusto from the burden of the family by killing off the others. Marco Bellocchio's 1965 debut is a savage attack on the bourgeois family and the Church, and a landmark of Italian cinema.
Sinekatalog’s take
Marco Bellocchio's savage debut follows a young man planning to kill his ailing family in a decaying villa. Angry, nasty and darkly comic, with Lou Castel feverish, it is a landmark of 1960s Italian rebellion.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
