Directed by Chantal Akerman

Cast

Delphine Seyrig Jan Decorte Henri Storck

Plot

Over three days, Jeanne Dielman, a Brussels widow, follows a rigid routine: cooking, cleaning, shopping and caring for her teenage son, and, in the afternoons, receiving a client for money. The camera watches in long, static takes and real time, and small changes in her habits gradually suggest a crack in the order. Chantal Akerman's 1975 film, with Delphine Seyrig, was voted the greatest film of all time in Sight and Sound's 2022 poll.

Sinekatalog’s take

Chantal Akerman's landmark follows a Brussels widow, Delphine Seyrig, through three days of rigid domestic routine and afternoon prostitution, in long static takes. Hypnotic and precise, it is a revolutionary, devastating portrait of women's work and repression.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
