Plot
During a hot, humid summer in northern Argentina, two families, one wealthy and decaying, one poor, are tied together in a rundown country house with a stagnant swimming pool. Mothers drink, children play with guns and hunt, and the household drifts towards a tragedy. Lucrecia Martel's 2001 debut is atmospheric and sound-driven, and a landmark of the New Argentine Cinema.
Sinekatalog’s take
Lucrecia Martel's debut is a sweaty, uneasy portrait of two families in northern Argentina. Sound and decay build a dreamlike menace, making it a sharply original, hypnotic study of class and lethargy.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
