Plot
Jef Costello, a solitary hired killer living in a spartan Paris apartment, commits a murder in a nightclub with a perfect alibi. The police inspector who suspects him can't break his story, and his employers decide he is a liability, so he is hunted by both sides. Jean-Pierre Melville's 1967 film, with Alain Delon in the title role, is a stylish, quiet study of loneliness and code, which influenced many later thrillers.
Sinekatalog’s take
Melville's hitman thriller follows a lonely killer with a bird and a ritual of order. Alain Delon's minimalism and the film's cool grey look made it a model for cinematic cool.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
