Plot

On Valentine's Day, 1900, a group of schoolgirls from Appleyard College go on a picnic at Hanging Rock, a volcanic formation in Victoria, Australia. Three girls and a teacher walk up the rock and disappear, and the search for them shakes the school and the community. Peter Weir's 1975 film, based on Joan Lindsay's novel, never offers a solution, but builds an atmosphere of mystery and dread.
