Plot
In a small Texas town, Sheriff John T. Chance arrests the brother of a powerful rancher for murder. To keep him in jail until the marshal arrives, he relies on a drunk deputy, Dude, a crippled old man, Stumpy, and a young gunfighter, Colorado, while the rancher's men besiege the jail. A gambler named Feathers adds a romance. Howard Hawks's 1959 Western, with John Wayne, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson, was made as a reply to High Noon, and it prefers loyalty among professionals to a lonely stand.
Sinekatalog’s take
Howard Hawks's relaxed western has a sheriff, a drunk, a kid and an old man defend a jail. It's a hangout movie as much as a thriller, with John Wayne, Dean Martin and Angie Dickinson.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
