A poor Tokyo family lives on small thefts and pensions. After shoplifting one night, the father and son find a neglected little girl shivering in the cold, and take her in. As she settles into the family, their secrets begin to emerge. Hirokazu Kore-eda's 2018 film is a warm and quietly devastating look at what makes a family, and won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.

Sinekatalog’s take

Kore-eda follows a poor Tokyo family that survives by petty theft and takes in a neglected girl. Gentle and complicated, it asks what makes a family and sneaks up on you emotionally.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
