Plot
A city slicker persuades a country girl, Tillie, to run away with him, hoping to get her uncle's inheritance. Tillie, played by Marie Dressler, is abandoned in the city, and when her uncle is believed dead, the slicker returns to marry her for her money. Chaos follows when the uncle turns out to be alive. Directed by Mack Sennett in 1914, with Charlie Chaplin as the slicker, it is often cited as the first feature-length comedy, running about an hour and a quarter.
Sinekatalog’s take
Mack Sennett's 1914 comedy, the first feature-length slapstick, pairs Marie Dressler with Chaplin and Mabel Normand. Rowdy and historic, it is a noisy, creaky but fascinating early comedy.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
