The villagers, led by the mayor, decorate the village in Andalusian style to impress the visitors, and dream of what the Americans might bring. Luis García Berlanga's 1953 comedy, a satire of Franco's Spain, won a prize at Cannes and is a classic of Spanish cinema.
Sinekatalog’s take
Luis García Berlanga's comedy shows a sleepy Spanish village preparing to impress visiting American Marshall Plan officials. Gentle and satirical, with dream sequences, it skewers Franco-era illusions with great affection.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
