Born in Roubaix in 1960 and trained at IDHEC, Arnaud Desplechin makes literate films about contemporary French families and friendships, often melodramatic and influenced by François Truffaut. After The Sentinel (1992) came My Sex Life... or How I Got Into an Argument (1996), Kings and Queen (2004), A Christmas Tale (2008) and My Golden Days (2015), which won him the best director César. Oh Mercy! (2019) and Brother and Sister (2022) were also in competition at Cannes.
