Born in Paris in 1980, Audrey Diwan was a journalist and screenwriter, co-writing Mustang with Deniz Gamze Ergüven and Rebecca Zlotowski's Grand Central. Her second feature Happening (L'Événement, 2021), adapted from Annie Ernaux's memoir about a student seeking an illegal abortion in 1963 France, won the Golden Lion at Venice, making her the second woman in a row to take it. Diwan followed it with Emmanuelle (2024), a reimagining of the erotic classic.
