Luc Besson (born 1959 in Paris) is a French director, writer and producer who made a glossy, fast, image-driven cinema often grouped under the label 'cinéma du look'. After The Last Battle (1983) and Subway (1985) he had a hit with The Big Blue (1988), followed by La Femme Nikita (1990) and Léon: The Professional (1994). The Fifth Element (1997) was a large science-fiction adventure, and later films include Lucy (2014), Valerian (2017) and DogMan (2023). With his company EuropaCorp he also became one of Europe's busiest producers.
