Otto Preminger (1905-1986) was born in Wiznitz in Austria-Hungary, trained in the theatre in Vienna and came to Hollywood in 1935. He made the noir Laura (1944), then became the producer-director who broke the old Production Code: The Moon Is Blue (1953) was released without its seal, and The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) dealt openly with heroin addiction. Anatomy of a Murder (1959) and Advise & Consent (1962) are among the most grown-up American courtroom and political films, and his title sequences by Saul Bass helped change film design.
