Plot
The American President nominates Robert Leffingwell as Secretary of State, and a Senate committee led by the earnest Senator Brigham Anderson must decide whether to confirm him. When a secret from Leffingwell's past surfaces, Washington's factions begin to blackmail and threaten one another. Based on Allen Drury's novel, with Henry Fonda, Charles Laughton and Walter Pidgeon.
Sinekatalog’s take
A cynical, well-acted portrait of how Washington works, with strong roles for a big veteran cast. Laughton's last film role is a highlight, and the film touches on subjects such as homosexuality that were rare at the time.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
