Michael Powell (British, 1905–1990) and Emeric Pressburger (Hungarian-born, 1902–1988) worked together as The Archers from 1939 to 1957, sharing the credit for writing, producing and directing. Their richly coloured, imaginative films mixed fantasy, romance and wartime themes.
