Wes Anderson

American Independent Cinema

Born in Houston in 1969, Wes Anderson met Owen Wilson at the University of Texas, and they wrote Bottle Rocket (1996) together. His films, with symmetrical compositions, pastel colour palettes, dollhouse sets, deadpan acting and dysfunctional families, form one of the most recognisable styles in contemporary cinema. Rushmore (1998), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Moonrise Kingdom (2012) and The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) were critical and popular successes, and he has made two stop-motion animations, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Isle of Dogs. He works regularly with Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman and Tilda Swinton.
