Plot

A boy from southern Iran who has lost his family in a bombing during the Iran-Iraq War escapes north on a truck, and ends up at the farm of a woman, Naii, in Gilan. She speaks a different language and her neighbours are suspicious, but little by little she takes him in as her own. Bahram Beyzaie's 1989 film, a plea for tolerance and a moving portrait of motherhood, was banned for years and is considered one of the great Iranian films.

Sinekatalog’s take

Bahram Beyzaie's Iran-Iraq War drama follows a displaced southern boy taken in by a northern farm woman who speaks another language. Tender and quietly radical, with Susan Taslimi superb, it is a humane plea for tolerance long banned at home.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
