Plot

The film follows Mason, a boy growing up in Texas, from the age of six to eighteen, with his divorced parents and sister, through changes of school, home and stepfamilies. Richard Linklater filmed it over twelve years, using the same cast, so that the characters age on screen. The 2014 film, with Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke, is a unique, tender portrait of growing up.

Sinekatalog’s take

Richard Linklater filmed the same cast over twelve years to follow a boy growing up. The result is a gentle, accumulating portrait of ordinary life in which time itself is the main special effect.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
