Plot
Michel Poiccard, a petty criminal who models himself on Humphrey Bogart, steals a car in Marseille and kills a policeman. He goes to Paris, where he spends time with Patricia, an American student who sells newspapers on the Champs-Élysées, hoping to persuade her to flee with him to Italy. Jean-Luc Godard's 1960 debut, with jump cuts and handheld shooting, was a landmark of the French New Wave and changed the grammar of cinema.
Sinekatalog’s take
Godard's debut broke the rules of editing and storytelling with jump cuts and a cool, restless energy. Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg are iconic, and it launched the French New Wave.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
